Each August, Jumilla is transformed. The streets fill with peñas, with music, with traditional dress and, above all, with wine flowing in torrents. The Jumilla Wine Festivals — declared of Regional Tourist Interest and born in 1972 from the hand of a group of local winegrowers — are not one more feast on the calendar. They are, quite simply, the soul of our land set out in the street.

And for us, at Bodegas Delampa, August is far more than a month of celebration. It is the moment in which an entire community gathers around that which defines us: the culture of wine.

A town that gives itself wholly to its wine

What makes the Jumilla Wine Festivals special is that they are not organised by a company or an administration in isolation. They are lived by winegrowers, farmers, peñas, entire families and the Town Hall, side by side, for more than five decades.

During these days, Jumilla ceases to be only a municipality: it becomes the meeting point of the whole Jumillan society. Neighbours who have spent months working in the fields, cellars that have spent the year making wine, families who prepare their floats weeks in advance… All converge in the same streets, with the same purpose: to celebrate wine as the engine of our identity.

For a centenary house such as ours, with more than a century of history behind it, taking part in these festivals is not an option. It is a way of honouring those who preceded us and of remembering, each year, why we do what we do.

The Exaltation of Wine: the starting pistol

Everything begins with the Great Feast of the Exaltation of Wine, the act that officially opens the Harvest Festival. Winegrowers, representatives of the Consejo Regulador D.O.P. Jumilla, public institutions and neighbours gather in an evening charged with emotion, music and, of course, fine wine.

The culminating instant of the night is the collective toast, in which all of Jumilla wishes the same: an excellent coming harvest. That symbolic toast marks, for us, the true emotional start of the season. From that point, everything we do in the cellar looks toward the same horizon: the harvest that is about to arrive.

Offering of Grapes and First Must: the homage that defines us

Few acts better represent Jumillan wine culture than the Offering of Grapes and First Must to the Niño de las Uvas. A solemn procession travels the streets of the centre until it reaches the Plaza de la Glorieta, where the grape and the first must of the season are offered.

It is a simple gesture, yet profoundly significant: before selling a single bottle, Jumilla pauses to give thanks. It thanks the land, the vine, the work of generations. At Delampa we understand this act almost as an extension of our own family values: respect for the craft and for those who made it possible since 1921.

The Great Wine Cavalcade: the showcase we all await

If there is a moment that sums up the festive spirit of these festivals, it is the Great Wine Cavalcade. Adorned floats, peñas dressed in the traditional Jumillan costume and litres upon litres of wine that are shared — and spilled — through the streets in what many describe as a true Bacchic rite in the heart of the twenty-first century.

Organised by the Federación de Peñas de Fiestas de la Vendimia, the Cavalcade is, for the houses of the D.O. Jumilla, an incomparable showcase. Thousands of visitors and neighbours walk the streets tasting our wines, discovering labels and creating that emotional bond which later becomes visits to the cellar, purchases and loyal guests throughout the year.

Beyond the feast, these days have a deep entrepreneurial meaning. The Jumilla Wine Festivals coincide, year after year, with the final stretch before the harvest. It is the moment in which the sector prepares itself, takes heart and sets itself in motion. For us it means:
