Mid-June is already here and, with the arrival of the heat, the same question returns each year: which is the best wine for summer? In a few days comes Saint John's Eve, one of the most awaited nights across Spain, with bonfires on the beach, dinners on the terrace and the first plunges into the sea.

At Bodegas Delampa, we have spent more than 100 years making wine in the Denominación de Origen Jumilla, and summer is our favourite season: it is when our rosés, whites and young reds truly shine. In this guide we tell you which wines triumph in 2026, how to serve them and which to choose according to the plan you have this season.

Why in Summer What We Drink Changes (and Must Change)

With the heat, dishes become lighter — salads, fish, rice dishes, outdoor grills — and the body asks for a wine for summer that is equally fresh: higher acidity, less body and lower serving temperatures. This does not mean giving up character; it means choosing well.

The good news is that the D.O. Jumilla, known above all for its powerful Monastrell reds, has a summer face that many still do not know: vibrant rosés, aromatic whites from altitude and young reds that, served chilled, become the discovery of the season.

1. Rosés: The Great Protagonists of Summer 2026

If there is a category living its golden age in 2026, it is rosé wine. It has ceased to be “the little brother” of red and become the perfect wild card of any summer table: it has the freshness of a white and the fruit structure of a red, which makes it ideal for pairings that once seemed impossible, from Asian and spicy cooking to rice dishes and smoked fish.

Our recommendation: Srta. Jenares Rosado

Made from Monastrell grapes, our Srta. Jenares Rosado (4,80 €) is pure wine for summer in a glass: vibrant raspberry colour, aromas of fresh red fruit and a light finish that invites another pour. It is the perfect wine for:

  • Long aperitifs on the terrace
  • Rice dishes, paellas and arroz a banda
  • Asian cooking, sushi and spiced dishes
  • Accompanying a board of fresh cheeses and charcuterie

Ideal temperature: 8-10 °C (ideally with plenty of ice in the bucket; do not be afraid to serve it very cold)

2. Fresh and Aromatic Whites: The Essentials of the Heat

Dry, fresh white wines are the safe choice of wine for summer, and in 2026 the aromatic styles — especially those made with Sauvignon Blanc — are on the rise across Europe. At Bodegas Delampa we have several options that cover every taste:

Mr. Jenares Verdejo (4,80 €)

The wine for summer par excellence. Fresh, light and with that characteristic herbal note of Verdejo. Perfect for a summer aperitif, salads or simply to drink well chilled on arriving home after the beach.

Éxodo Azul Sauvignon Blanc (5,90 €)

If you prefer whites that are more aromatic and full of personality, this is your wine. Citrus notes and fresh grass that connect directly with the trend most spoken of this year.

Mr. Jenares Chardonnay (7,80 €)

A white with a little more body, ideal for those who seek a wine with greater presence on the palate without losing freshness. It pairs wonderfully with baked fish and grilled shellfish.

El Distinguido Verdejo (7,00 €)

The most elegant wine for summer. Our more premium Verdejo proposal, for those who seek something special for a summer dinner with guests.

Ideal temperature: 7-9 °C

3. The Great Trend of 2026: Young Reds… Served Chilled

Here comes one of the most discussed trends of the year: light, fruity reds, served chilled, have become an option as refreshing as a white or a rosé. What was once a sommelier’s secret is now mainstream: placing a young red in the refrigerator 20-30 minutes before serving it.

Young Monastrell is perfect for this. It has ripe fruit, soft tannins and, slightly cold, it gains freshness without losing its Mediterranean character.

Our proposals for a summer red:

How to serve it: 20-30 minutes in the refrigerator or 10 minutes in an ice bucket with ice and water. Aim for 14-16 °C, never the ambient temperature of summer (which can easily exceed 28-30 °C).

How to Serve Your Wine for Summer: Temperature Table

Type of wine Ideal temperature Time in the refrigerator
Rosé (Srta. Jenares) 8-10 °C 1-2 hours
White (Verdejo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc) 7-9 °C 2 hours
Young red (Monastrell) 14-16 °C 20-30 minutes
Crianza red (Mr. Jenares 12 Meses) 16-18 °C Do not chill

Which Wine for Summer to Take According to Your Plan?

  • Saint John's Eve on the beach: A well-chilled rosé or a young Monastrell red in an ice bucket. Both are easy to carry, need no decanting and pair with any nibble.
  • Barbecue with friends: Young Monastrell, slightly chilled, to accompany grilled meats without weighing on the heat.
  • Dinner on the terrace: White Chardonnay or Verdejo with fish, shellfish or warm salads.
  • An improvised aperitif: Rosé or Éxodo Azul Sauvignon Blanc — both perfect to open without thinking and enjoy at once.
  • A gift or seasonal gesture: Mr. Jenares 12 Meses or Delampa Centenario, for those who prefer something with more body even in summer.

Frequently Asked Questions about Wine for Summer

  • Is it advisable to put red wine in the refrigerator? Yes, especially young reds such as Monastrell. Some 20-30 minutes at 14-16 °C heighten their freshness without “switching off” their aromas, something more and more sommeliers do in summer.
  • Which wine holds up best to the heat at an outdoor table? Rosés and slightly chilled young reds are those that evolve most pleasantly in the glass when it is hot, as their fruit profile remains agreeable even as the temperature rises a few degrees.
  • Which is the best Jumilla wine to give as a gift in summer? If you seek something special, Mr. Jenares 12 Meses or Delampa Centenario (Best Mediterranean Wine Award) are high-end options that always surprise, even in the warm months.
  • May I buy several bottles and have them arrive home before Saint John's Eve? Yes, we ship directly from the cellar. We recommend placing your order a few days in advance to ensure delivery.
